The 1st Vagrant, also called the Knox Vagrant, is a Vagrant who formed in Knox County, Kentucky, in 2022. His genome, the Knox hive, spread from the county during the Second World War, and as of 2028 it holds most of North America.

Formation

The 1st Vagrant formed in 2022 on infested ground in Knox County, in a young Beckon network with few blueprints, and kept more autonomy than a Vagrant formed in an older network. He emerged in 2023.

Description

His signature colour, which the Beckons of his genome share, is purple. Dispatcher flowers grow from his shoulders and along his spine and receive signals continuously. He carries a scythe, and has a rigid arm near the neck that ends in a smaller scythe blade.

Knox hive

Main article: Knox hive

The Knox hive is the genome the 1st Vagrant produces. By 2024 it held Knox County. Its organisms carry changes to their behavioural thresholds, built up over years, that suit expansion into American territory.

An American attempt to burn out the county failed in late 2024, and Federation strikes on the American infrastructure around it in early 2025 allowed the hive to spread beyond it. As of 2028 it holds most of North America.

The Blackout

In 2027 the 1st Vagrant used the Dispatchers of the Knox hive to cause a sustained communications blackout across American-held North America. The Dispatchers filled American networks with false traffic while organisms cut fibre-optic lines. The Federation launched Operation Portage at the blackout's peak, and it advanced further into American-held territory than any offensive before it.

Relations

The European Federation has not acknowledged any dealings with the 1st Vagrant.
