The Knox hive is the parasite genome of the 1st Vagrant. It spread from Knox County, Kentucky, where he formed in 2022, and as of 2028 it holds most of North America. Its organisms answer to the 1st Vagrant.

Origin

The 1st Vagrant formed in Knox County in 2022, on ground already infested by parasites, and the hive spread outward from him. The Knox hive is the defining genome of the 1st Vagrant's lineage, in which he takes the place of a Root Beckon, and its organisms reflect the chemistry of the 1st Vagrant's bulb.

Spread

By 2024 the Knox hive held Knox County. From September to December 2024 American forces cordoned the county and tried to burn out the growth, which survived underground. During the Second World War, Federation strikes on the railways, tunnels and power stations around the county between January and March 2025 broke the American cordon and allowed the hive to expand beyond the county, and over the following years it spread across most of North America.

Characteristics

The Knox hive is the most adapted of the Vagrant genomes. Its organisms carry changes to their behavioural thresholds, built up over years, that suit expansion into American-held territory. Its Beckons glow purple, the colour of the 1st Vagrant, and their blood carries the same purple glow.

In 2027 the 1st Vagrant used the hive's Dispatchers to cause a sustained communications blackout across American-held North America, during which a Federation offensive advanced further into American-held territory than any before it.
