Clearwind is an independent online journal of news and commentary published in Amsterdam. It covers the politics of the European Federation, the work of its institutions and of H&A, and life in held territory. It is owned by a foundation and funded by its readers, and accepts no funding from the Federation's institutions or from H&A.
History
Clearwind was founded in 2014 by a group of journalists in Amsterdam as a reader-funded online magazine covering the Federation's institutions. Before 2020 it had a small readership, mainly among federal staff and in the city's political circles.
From 2020 its readership grew with its coverage of the infestation and of the Federation's response to it, including the evacuation of lost regions, the collapse of marine insurance and the workings of the joint H&A-EF command after the Kraków Accords of 2027. As of 2028 it is among the most-read news sources in the Federation.
Content
Clearwind publishes daily news, longer investigations and commentary, in English and Dutch. Its regular sections cover the European Parliament and the federal institutions, H&A, the war in Canada, and conditions in the cities of held territory. It publishes the minutes of the Parliament's committees in full, and keeps a record of the closures of railway lines and supply routes announced by the Federation and by H&A Logistics.
Ownership and funding
The journal is owned by the Clearwind Foundation, an Amsterdam foundation whose statutes forbid the sale of the journal and any funding from the Federation's institutions, H&A or political parties. Its costs are met by reader subscriptions and donations. The articles are free to read.
